Northern Health has declared a Covid-19 community outbreak on Haida Gwaii.
Northern Health has confirmed a total of 13 cases on Haida Gwaii. Of those 12 of the cases are considered active and epidemiologically linked. The initial sources of transmission are still being investigated, it is believed that all cases are either residents who had recently traveled off-island or had exposure to other residents to had recently traveled.
At this time there are no impacts to the acute care services. Northern Health and the First Nations Health Authority are working with the Council of Haida Nation and municipal governments to coordinate community and medical responses.
Close contacts or any confirmed cases will be informed by public health officials and action will then be taken.
