This evening I speak with former grand chief of the Decho First Nation, Herb Norwegian.
Herb told us about an upcoming documentary he’s featured in called, “Nahanni, River Of Forgiveness”, airing on the Documentary Channel Sunday, August 9th at 9pm.
The journey follows 12 members of the Dene first nation, as they channel the spirits of their ancestors, sew together a traditional moose skin boat, and set out on the unforgiving waters of the Nahanni river. Each individual on the excursion goes through their own personal growth while on the trip, and their perspectives come from all different places…Whether it be that of a 23 year old young woman wanting to learn more about her nation’s traditions, or that of elder Leon Andrew, who set out on the Nahanni because he wanted to travel the same land his grandfather did before him.
He also just happens to throw in a story about a famous friend of his…David Suzuki.
