Houston RCMP have identified two suspects in connection with an arson on a cabin on the Morice Forest Service road.
The fire was originally reported to the B.C. RCMP Community – Industry Response Group and Quick Response Team members who had been working in the area. Upon arriving the two teams secured the area and conducted a preliminary sweep of the area and determined there was no one in the immediate area in need of assistance.
The area appeared to have been unoccupied at the time of the fire. The Forensic Identification Section was then called to process any evidence in the area. Evidence was collected, the investigation is still ongoing and will be forwarded to the B.C. Prosecution Service for review of potential charges. The suspects, a 24-year-old male and 19-year old male are Burns Lake residents and were employed in the Houston area.
Sgt Mark Smail said in a statement, “this is a priority for the detachment and could have ended tragically had there been anyone in the building.”
Further details may be released as the investigation continues.
