B.C.’s health system has now completed 66 per cent of the surgeries that were postponed because of the pandemic. By Aug. 23 there were a total of 85,345 patients called since May 7 regarding the rescheduling of their surgery.
Health Minister Adrian Dix says, “our first report from May to June showed that we were making steady gains in the surgical renewal plan with a promising trajectory.”
The impacts of Covid-19 have been felt as surgeries are taking 2 per cent longer than last year. More than 17-thousand patients were told they couldn’t have their planned surgeries while hospitals braced for a possible surge of Covid-19. A 6 per cent increase in operating room hours was achieved compared to the same time frame last year.
