A special air quality statement has been issued for the South Peace Region, Cariboo, Lakes District and northern coastal and inland sections.
The regions are either currently or will be impacted by wildfire smoke between the next 24 to 72 hours. The smoke is coming from wildfires in the western part of the United States. The special bulletin has been extended to include even more regions over the weekend. The Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and portions of the interior have already been impacted by the smoke.
The anticipated smoke trajectory indicates that the areas impacted will grow to the north and east as the weekend progresses with the most widespread impacts expected on Sunday. With falling temperatures overnight, temperature inversions in mountain valleys can increase the likelihood of smoke being trapped near the ground.
Updates will continue to come on the Government of B.C.’s Website.
