This evening we’re speaking with Dr. Mique’l Dangeli, a woman who’s made her way up to Terrace to fulfill her life’s passion of revitalizing the Sm’algyax language. She’s also an interdisciplinary artist, whose work with the Git Hayetsk Dancers has not only seen her perform for people on Broadway in New York City, but also played a big part of the subject of her doctoral thesis, which highlights Indigenous dance as way of performing sovereignty. In our interview, Mique’l shares with us a bit about what led her to start her studies in Sm’algyax, and how she continues to share her passion for speaking the language today, as well as her goals and hopes for the future.
