Tonight, we’re speaking with Shaelyn Johnston, an award-winning Anishinaabe and Irish-Canadian writer from Vancouver, who’s gearing up to host a screen writing workshop in Northern B.C., in order to elevate Indigenous women’s voices in film.
The program is called Tricksters and Writers, and will be an online version of their typical in class learning scenario. It’s all part of an initiative from Women in Film Vancouver, to ensure the stories of Indigenous women are heard in the motion picture industry.
In our interview, Shaelyn will stress the importance of raising these voices, and tell you how you can apply to take part in the workshop if you identify as an Indigenous woman.
