As one of CBC’s Top 25 Canadian Hip Hop artists of all time, Joey Stylez has seen his share of success. From a Juno Nomination for best Indigenous Album in 2011, having his music featured in an Oscar nominated film maker’s movie, to recent appearances on the Kevin Costner series “Yellowstone” as himself, Joey is continuously taking on new challenges, all while advocating for Indigenous peoples.
He’s also just gotten married to his long-time partner in both life and music, Carsen Grey, and they’re raising their two children on Haida Gwaii.
In our interview, Joey talks about his youth, and how he got his start, how he eventually connected with Grammy winning artist the Weeknd, what he’s got on the go now that COVID has his travel schedule on pause, as well as his brand new song, “Ding a Ling”, which can be heard on Sirius XM’s Indigenous Music countdown.
