The Provincial Government is extending the rent freeze until July 10.
This is an interim measure to provide stability and advance notice for renters and landlords while a new cabinet is sworn in. Any increases that were set to happen on December 1 have now been cancelled. Along with all the pending increases through to July.
The original rent freeze happened in March and the ban was set to expire on December 1. Any renters who received notices of their rent increasing should continue paying their current rent until July 10.
If landlords or renters have any questions they can call the Residential Tenancy Branch 1 800 665-8779 or by email at HSRTO@gov.bc.ca.
