Journalist Brandi Morin has spent more than a decade devoted to telling the stories of Indigenous people. For the past four months, she’s been imparting all of the wisdom she gathered throughout her career onto aspiring reporters in Northern Ontario, eager to tell the stories from within their communities, and beyond.
The Indigenous Reporters program was launched by Journalists for Human Rights, an organization dedicated to “empowering journalists to cover human rights stories objectively and effectively”, and is just one of many opportunities available to Indigenous people in Canada.
In this interview with Brandi, she’ll tell us a little bit about her background in print and broadcast, and speak to the work JHR does as an organization, including providing opportunities for Indigenous journalists to apply for bursaries and grants.
