Last week, members of the Queen Charlotte RCMP detachment on Haida Gwaii, made holiday visits to elders in the Skidegate community. They arrived wearing Santa hats, and in decorated police cruisers that were playing holiday music.
The officers didn’t arrive empty handed, they also brought gifts for the elders, and candy cane for children.
Constable Dale Judd says it has been a tough year and they wanted to hold an event that would bring some holiday cheer to the community.
Funding for the gifts came from Indigenous Policing Services. Constable Judd says, the detachment hopes to hold similar events in the future.
