Skeena-Bulkey Valley MP Taylor Bachrach is celebrating a victory as Bill C-229 was rejected in the house of commons.
The House of Commons voted on Wednesday. Bill C-229 was looking to repeal the Oil Tanker Moratoriums Act on B.C.’s North Coast. The bill was defeated with 208 votes opposed and 118 in favour.
“The oil tanker moratorium represents five decades of hard work by communities and First
Nations up and down our coast,” Bachrach said in a statement.
Bachrach welcomed the result of the vote saying it reflects a growing awareness in Ottawa of how important these protections are for communities along B.C.’s North Coast.
