Two men are dead following a tugboat incident in the Gardner Canal near Kemano.
On February 11, at 1240 a.m. RCMP West Coast Marine were tasked by the joint Rescue Coordination Centre after an emergency beacon was received from a tugboat in the Canal. The RCMP West Coast Marine responded and found the first deceased man. The Canadian Coast Guard also assisted and found the second deceased man. One man was spotted by a private helicopter on the shore and taken to a local hospital.
The tugboat involved was towing a barge that was en route from Kitimat to Kemano.
Details are limited and at this time there is no further information available. B.C. Coroners Service, Work Safe BC and the Transportation Safety board are engaged with the investigation. The B.C. Coroners service will be conducting their own investigation into the deaths.
