The City of Terrace has received the provincial Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure grant for $921,352 to complete the Lakelse Gateway Connection Project.
This grant will completely cover the cost of the project. The project will more safely connect Terrace to Thornhill and beyond via a 1-kilometre multi-use pathway on the north side of Lakelse Ave. The project will upgrade the existing gravel shoulder to a separated, safe and accessible 3-metre wide asphalt pathway as well as complete the related required road work. The pathway will span from the historic Old Skeena Bridge to the entry into downtown Terrace at Apsley St. The pathway will end at a small gateway feature which will likely include signage, landscaping and a resting area marking the entrance to downtown Terrace.
A gateway project was included in the 2018 Downtown Action Plan as one of the “Ten Big Moves” which is a series of projects that will accelerate a more dynamic downtown for the City.
