Funding has been announced to help communities recover more quickly from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic with help from close to $13 million in new funding for local infrastructure projects.
The funding will help almost 30 community-based projects across the northwest of the province, from Atlin to Burns Lake to Bella Coola. The funding will be coming through B.C.’s Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program which is providing $100 million in one-time grants for projects across B.C..
Smithers will be seeing a few of their projects receiving funding including, Central Park Building rehabilitation, Arena Ice Plants Consolidation and Heat Recovery and Smithers Mountain Bike Association- Lift-served mountain biking in an iconic location. Port Edward Historical Society will be receiving funding for Preservation Interventions to the North Pacific Cannery. The Nisga’a Lisms Government will receive funding for the Vetter Lodge for Tourism Capacity and Accessibility Upgrades. They will also receive funding for the Nisga’a Museum. The funding will be part of B.C.’s $10 billion Covid-19 response.
