A fish weir was discovered in Minette Bay that solidifies the Haisla Nation’s history in the territory.
A blessing ceremony was held by the Haisla Nation back in August for the newly discovered fish weirs. Evidence was found that fish weirs were constructed and used as early as 1,800 years ago in Minette Bay.
The weirs were discovered as work was being done on a marine Habitat Offset program. You can view a short documentary on the discovery of the fishing weirs on the Haisla Nation’s website.
