Airports in the north are set to receive a boost thanks to some provincial funding.
There’s $9.28 million that has been allocated as part of B.C.’s Covid-19 economic recovery plan and B.C. Air Access Program grants. The funding will enhance local airport infrastructure with initiatives like upgraded taxi lanes, new airside paving and green building projects.
The Province has partnered with 27 regional airports and the federal government to develop a coordinated approach to supporting the sector.
Nine projects in the north are set to share $3.6 million in funding for upgrades. These include: Atlin Airport, $445,460, Kitimat Air Park, $822,913, Northern Rockies Airport, $163,726 Prince George Airport (Project 1) $299,250, Prince George Airport (Project 2), $196,500.
The B.C. Air Access program is now in its seventh year and is a cost-share program that provides funding to assist communities with improvements to airport infrastructure.
B.C. has more than 300 public airports, heliports and water aerodromes. Through the grant program, the government has committed over $32.5 million to 51 airports since 2017.
