The church in Gitwangak is a pile of rubble after a fire destroyed it Thursday night.
St Paul’s Anglican church saw the first attempt on June 27. Calls came into the RCMP in Hazelton shortly after one a.m. that the front of the building was aflame. It was extinguished quickly and the damage was minimal.
However, last night’s fire took the building down.
The church was 100 years old and was built by indigenous elders.
This is the fifth church to be set ablaze in BC and all are being attributed the discovery of the remains of children in BC and Saskatchewan on land that was part of the residential school system.
Both of the fires in Gitwangak are under investigation.
