The Kitimat RCMP is bringing in another officer to bolster its crime reduction unit’s efforts to dampen drug-related crime and to assist in investigations.
Detachment commander Sgt. Graham Morgan stated earlier this week that cracking down on the drug trade is one of the four areas of major concentration for the RCMP this year, the others being mental health, domestic violence and road safety.
Although the four strategic priorities have very different objectives, they are all connected with one another. Also, establishing individual themes gives the RCMP the opportunity they need to achieve their main goal, to support the community’s needs and lower crime rates.
And with 24 officers already working out of the Kitimat RCMP detachment, the team needed to add one more member to their roster in order to spare two officers for their crime reduction unit.
