BC Premier John Horgan says he will lobby for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to deploy some of Canada’s military personnel to help clear out fire danger zones to hopefully prevent future wildfires.
Trudeau and Horgan met yesterday with both local government officials and First Nations leaders to discuss the recent wildfire that wiped out the village of Lytton and the other ongoing numerous wildfires across the province.
Horgan stated that B.C. is both experienced and accustomed to dealing with wildfires during the summer months, but with how massive and destructive the fires have been over recent years is now demanding that all the governments in the province look at new approaches to both prevent and fight fires.
Trudeau stated that the federal government’s primary concern is currently helping out the residents of Lytton, but he also said that future methods of fire prevention need be considered.
