The construction of both the new Mills Memorial Hospital and the accompanying Seven Sisters mental health facility is expected to generate a little bit over 2,650 person years of employment with the peak of the construction activity to be around two years from now to the summer of 2023.
Health minister Adrian Dix stated last week that more than half of that person years of employment total, or 1,590 person years of employment, will be achieved through direct employment and the remainder will be through indirect employment.
Dix also said that while contractor PCL Constructors Westcoast has committed to hiring as many local people as they possibly can, there’s no figure that it needs reach.
But Dix did acknowledge that a majority of the workforce working on the construction will be coming from non-local areas.
