The province has announced plans to beef up B-C’s ambulance system after sudden deaths increased 300 per cent during the recent extreme heat wave.
That includes hiring 85 new full-time paramedics, 30 full-time dispatchers and adding 22 new ambulances.
Health authorities are also being directed to deploy extra staff to receive and care for patients arriving at emergency departments to get ambulances back on the road sooner.
The announcement comes after British Columbians reported hours-long waits after calling for an ambulance during the record-setting heat wave.
