The B-C Wildfire Service says one of the fires it is watching — but not currently fighting — is a highly visible blaze in southeastern B-C.
A statement from the wildfire service says the Bill Nye Mountain fire east of Kimberley has been burning in “incredibly steep, inoperable terrain” since it was spotted last Thursday.
Fire behavior increased yesterday thanks to windy hot conditions and although the blaze is producing a lot of smoke the wildfire service says it is burning uphill, away from structures and will not be actively fought.
Wildfire officials said yesterday that the increasing number of fires in B-C, coupled with busy wildfire seasons in several other provinces, means B-C wildfire crews can’t count on out-of-province help — so they are only focusing on blazes that threaten property or lives.
