Northern Health stated back on July 16th that the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital will be undergoing a proposed renovation to the main floor due to a significant amount of issues and areas that need and require improvement.
A request for proposal for consultant services has been placed on BC Bid by the authority, describing the planning work that will encompass reviewing and revising the layout of the main floor so that it better accommodates both the operating rooms and the emergency room.
The amount of surgeries at said hospital have increased by more than 15 per cent this past year and occupancy of the facility is averaging 115 to 120 per cent, with the health authority expecting further increases in both numbers over time.
According to the proposal document, updating the ER and the nearby lobby is required to create proper flow in the facility as well as meet the standards it needs to be operating at.
