The number of passengers making their way through the Northwest Regional Airport went up by a bit over 3,000 from May to June of this year, as COVID-19 vaccination rates continue to rise throughout all of BC.
According to the airport’s latest figures, June saw a total of 11,306 passengers. Which is quite a bit below pre-COVID numbers, but it still made up the busiest month the year so far and is also a significant increase from May’s total of just under 8,000 passengers.
A more normal number of passengers for the airport in a month before the pandemic was around 24,000, like in June of 2019.
The Northwest Regional Airport Services the towns of Terrace and Kitimat. Its statistics do not include passengers on chartered flights, so the actual number of people coming and going from the airport is actually higher than what has been recorded. Charter passengers use a different building for arriving and leaving.
