Officials with the B-C Wildfire Service say they’re making progress fighting some 250 blazes, but they’re concerned about people defying evacuation orders.
Director of operations Rob Schweitzer told a media briefing that helicopters and other resources had to be diverted over the weekend to help a number of people who were trapped behind fire lines after failing to heed evacuation orders.
He says people who don’t leave may find their routes blocked, or access to information limited — something that’s proven deadly in other jurisdictions.
The number of properties under evacuation orders this morning was just over 37-hundred, down about 550 from yesterday.
