A brand new response team has been sent to northwest B.C. in order to provide rapid response for the communities that are facing big time mental health and substance abuse challenges.
The Northwest Specialized Response Team is made up of two registered nurses that will accompany both RCMP and other first responders on mental health and substance use-related calls.
In a news release, the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions said that a pilot of the SRT program began working in Terrace a few weeks ago and as of right now, is limited to the city with two nurses on rotation seven days a week between noon and 8:30 p.m.
Throughout the rest of this year, the ministry also plans to expand the SRT’s jurisdiction to both Smithers and Prince Rupert.
