With there currently being few details from both parties as to what’s going on in the contract talks between the Unifor Local 2301 union and Rio Tinto, the union has released a brand new news bulletin update.
This Bulletin was sent out in response to what Rio Tinto general manager, Affonso Bizon Jr, said is misinformation being given out by Unifor to their own members.
According to the union, if Rio Tinto’s current terms were to be accepted for the new contract, a temporary employee would be required to work for 2,080 straight hours in order to get ‘company seniority’ benefits, which is currently 580 hours more than the collective agreement lists.
The Union said that to make sure those benefits are maintained, temporary employees who already have ‘company seniority’ but have worked less than 1,040 hours straight in a six-month time frame would lose their benefits for six months.
And in order to get back their benefits, they would have to work an additional 1,040 hours in the following six-month period of time.
