A lot of community members went to the Terrace Sportsplex yesterday, which marked the end of Northern Health’s mass vaccination drive in Terrace.
The event, which was known as ‘VAX the NORTH’, consisted of things like the last COVID-19 vaccine clinic held inside the Sportsplex, and a parking lot celebration that had free food, refreshments, speeches, live music and entertainment.
According to Gillian McCutcheon, the manager of community services at Northern Health, the mass vaccination drive in Terrace began all the way back on March 23, and saw 25,000 vaccines (which is counting both first and second doses) administered over a span of 38 days to community members.
As of yesterday, McCutcheon also said that the city centre area is only 350 people short of getting to the 80 per cent vaccination rate mark as the Terrace rural area is currently at 71 per cent.
McCutcheon also stated that while the numbers are reflective of mostly Terrace residents, there were also people from outside the city as well as people from other provinces and countries that got their shots in Terrace. Since the city has a “moving population” due to industry.
