Back on Saturday, Rio Tinto Alcan released an update regarding their situation/state of negotiations with Unifor Local 2301.
Their update stated that Rio Tinto had set up a meeting in the coming days with Unifor 2301 so they could evaluate all the options of returning to the negotiating table.
Rio Tinto determined that due to the Union’s demands during the most recent discussions, they would be unable to come to a new collective bargaining agreement that is at least similar to other businesses in Canada.
Rio Tinto also stated in the update that it was important to not only discuss these long term changes so they could create a strong and sustainable future, but it was just as important for the two sides to work together as a team.
