Terrace is now extending its closure of Lanfear Hill till Aug. 23, which is about a week later that originally thought, as the crews working on the road’s repairs, are in need of more time to finish repairs on both the road and the shoulder.
Terrace City council will be having a meeting on Friday to discuss other improvements that could be done while the hill is closed down for another week. But if that work is to be done, it still needs to get approval from city council because this was not apart of the initial project agreement.
The road was initially closed down back on Aug. 3, so city crews could work on repairing sections of the walkway since parts of it began falling off of the hill earlier in the year.
$360,000 is the budget that city officials have listed for this project which is being done by the workers employed by the city so hiring contractors for the job has not been necessary. And according to a media release issued by the city earlier today, the project is currently expected to be under the budget.
The crews are still removing currently existing material from the narrow walkway, and filling it in with compacted rockfill and other material.
