Back on Tuesday, not long after 11:30 a.m. the RCMP in Bella Coola were made aware of a partially capsized drift boat seen drifting down stream on the Bella Coola River fairly close to Walker Island Park.
The boat was determined to be a fishing guide boat rented from a local lodge. Nobody was found on the boat or nearby it, but 3 people were believed to be on the boat.
And on the very same day at around 7:30 pm, members of the Campbell River Search and Rescue, found a body while in a helicopter 2kms above Grant Rd, and 4kms away from the Walker Island riverbank.
The RCMP are currently still working with the BC Coroners Service to find the identity of the victim.
The BC Coroners Service is also in the middle of their own concurrent fact-finding investigation into this death. And because of privacy the deceased will not have their name made public.
Bella Coola’s RCMP are requesting that anyone who might have information on this incident, or if they saw the boat sometime before August 10th to contact their detachment at (250) 799-5363.
