Last Week, a member of the Terrace RCMP Indigenous Policing Section named Constable Angela Rabut was the acting stern man for a 16-person canoe in order to make sure that the kids in the canoe were being steered properly during their Kitselas Youth Leadership Camp.
Back on July 30th, Constable Rabut helped get all the kids into the Big Canoe which is property of the Kitselas First Nations and she paddled with a group of youths that were all over 12 years old, around Lakelse Lake.
Back in 2018, the RCMP, Kitselas, and Kitsumkalum held Ridge Wilderness Adventures in order to teach the Big Canoe Skills Skipper and Paddler course in Terrace so they could prepare for a canoe journey to Prince Rupert, which they took down the Skeena river.
Gerald Nyce, the youth coordinator for Kitselas First Nation, secured the funding so they could purchase their very own canoe for their band back in 2019 which has been useful in helping build team work, bonding, and connecting with nature for the kids of the Kitselas First Nation.
Constable Rabut will be out with the kids in the Big Canoe the following week as well.
