Northern Health has issued an overdose alert which covers the Terrace and Smithers areas.
According to the Authority, the declaration comes following a recent increase in overdose activity on the communities.
Officials say the increase could be linked to a deep blue crystal being sold as heroin, which turns purple when used.
They also say the substance is incredibly toxic, and requires a greater amount of naloxone to reverse.
