The R-C-M-P and the Insurance Corporation of B-C have sent out a warning stating that police officers throughout BC are going to be going after any and all distracted drivers as well as people not wearing their seat-belt or some other type of appropriate restraint.
The Officer in Charge of B-C Highway Patrol, Superintendent Holly Turton, has stated that the more intense enforcement of anti distracted driving laws is planned in all areas of BC during September and that the enforcement is going to be covering a lot more than simply the use of a cellphone or texting while driving.
Turton also stated that driver could get tickets for things like grooming yourself, eating or drinking, not securing your pets properly, passengers without seat-belts, and reading.
Statistics have shown that distracted driving is the cause of 25 per cent of all car crash fatalities and is also the second leading cause of deadly collisions in B-C, taking 76 lives on average annually.
