Unemployment rates in BC, as well as throughout all of Canada, went down quite a bit in August thanks to 90 thousand Canadians finding a job during the month.
According to Statistics Canada, the country’s jobless rate was at 7.1 percent, a decrease from July’s percentage of 7.5. As for BC, the province’s jobless rate in August was at 6.2 per cent, a dip of about four-tenths of a point from July.
BC still happens to be the only province that has employment rates above the pre-pandemic levels, although like the Kootenays and Abbotsford-Mission have had their jobless rates go up half a percentage point or more since July. Prince George was another place that had their rate increase, and in their case, it went up nearly one percent from July’s number of 5.7 percent to August’s 6.5 percent.
Economists are currently saying that job creation across the country has included the creation of more full time jobs, along with the focus being on helping out the service industry as pandemic restrictions ease up a bit.
