Members of the Gitxsan Huwilp Government are expecting an update on the situation around Ross Lake by next month.
In late July, the Gitxsan filed an Environmental Appeal Board response to be recognized for consultation.
This was a direct result of a perceived environmental risk on Ross Lake, near Hazelton.
BC Parks had planned to drain the Lake in to the Bulkley River after they observed a waterflow issue with the dam structure.
According to the Gitxsan Huwilp, the berm causing the problem is more than 100 years old and was built for the Grand Trunk Railway.
The Gitxsan were forced to interject, due to the environmental impact the plan to drain the Lake could have.
An action plan, and update from the province are expected to come down by October.
