Development Permits
Two new development permits were approved by Terrace Council yesterday, both largely centering around cosmetic improvements.
The first was issued for the NSD Inland Port and Developments office near Keith Avenue and Eby Street.
That permit will allow for parking lot improvements as well as building facade improvements such as new metal siding, exterior doors, windows, a new facia, and an awning addition.
A second permit was issued for the east mall property, known for housing Safeway and other stores.
That permit will centre around cosmetic improvements to the area that once featured an Emerson Street exit, but is now used for storage space.
Additionally, a tenant has been secured for the vacant retail space near the Reitman’s, necessitating its sprucing up as well.
Temporary Use Permit
Terrace City Council have approved a temporary use permit for a Kalum Street lot, near the intersection with Feeney Ave.
Under the permit, Technicon Industries will be allowed to house 3 additional 20 ft shipping crates on the lot.
Being zoned general commercial, the maximum amount of containers allowed on the 4300 square metre lot would be two.
However, with the permit, the total stored on the property will be five.
As a caveat, the owner has agreed to ensure all of the containers remain within 15 metres of the southern property line, are maintained well, painted a neutral colour, and must contain no advertising.
As part of the agreement, the owner has agreed to come up with a permanent storage solution within the 3 year permit period.
A public notice issued prior to the meeting resulted in no inquiries.
