The Conservative Candidate for the Skeena Bulkley Valley, Clair Rattée, stated that she won’t be signing an online pledge create by a Wet’suwet’en clan for the purpose of asking federal candidates to promise that they won’t give any federal funding to LNG Canada and Coastal GasLink projects that are happening in Northern B.C.
Rattée cited Canada Elections Act 550 as her reasoning for not signing the pledge considering that act 550 states that candidates are not allowed to sign any pledges from when they get nominated to election day.
Jennifer Wickham, the media coordinator for this clan’s checkpoint, made it known that this pledge had already gotten 14 signatures in the span of a day.
While Elections Canada did not make any comments or give any statements on the particular situation of Rattée, they did state that any violation of the Canada elections act, depending on the amount of complaints, would be looked at by the independent Commissioner of Canada Elections.
