Each of the four major Federal parties have come out in support of the Indigenous Guardians Program.
Initially introduced in 2017, the program saw 5.7 million dollars invested in 28 Indigenous Communities in Canada.
Some communities included in the original plan include: the Tsilhqot`in, Tahltan, and Fort Nelson First Nations.
Funding was to go toward projects which help manage, protect, and monitor sensitive ecosystems.
During this election cycle, both the Conservatives and NDP have said they will expand the program.
The Greens have said they support the program, and related ones, and the Liberals have said they will introduce new Guardian programs.
Over 80 projects have been created as a result of the program thus far.
