CN Rail has been fined 2.5 million dollars in relation to an incident in the Skeena from 2017.
The fine stems from a Fisheries Act Violation which the railway pleaded guilty to yesterday in Prince Rupert.
In August of 2017, CN was caught spraying pesticides along portions of their track which run alongside the Skeena River, between Terrace and Prince Rupert.
Environmental tests by Environment Canada have revealed that the pesticides used were harmful to local fish.
According to them, along with the fine, CN will be added to it`s environmental offenders registry.
