The City of Terrace is giving their support to a big proposal that plans on linking two well known natural resources in the form of geothermal energy from very warm subsurface water close to Lakelse Lake and pellets made out of fibre from the Skeena Bioenergy plant that is next door to the Skeena Sawmills site on Highway 16.
The main method in which the city is sending its support is via letters that are backing bids for proposal proponents that are looking to get finances from both Federal and Provincial programs in order to cover most of the proposal’s costs.
The biggest benefit that is expected to come of this proposal is a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from Skeena Bioenergy by substituting Natural Gas for warm air in order to produce drying heat.
A pipeline would be built from the Lakelse Lake area to Skeena Bioenergy so that the two resources could officially be connected. However, further details on the pipeline are unknown as of right now.
