Rising water levels in the Kitimat River and Hirsch Creek areas have forced the District to close two local parks.
Until further notice, both the Radley Park and Hirsch Creek Parks will be temporarily closed, beginning immediately.
Campers in the area are being directed to stay in the Riverlodge parking lot until further notice.
In addition to the closures, the District is warning residents that high river levels could lead to unstable ground.
Residents are asked to use caution when approaching the streams and to avoid the edge of the riverbanks.
Drivers should also be aware of related closures on the Nisga’a Highway between Gingolx and New Aiyanish.
