More Intensive Care beds may be being taken up by Covid related patients than it seems on the surface.
According to BC’s Health Ministry, once a patient in ICU is no longer infectious, that person is removed from daily critical care counts.
This means that some patients who entered critical care because of Covid, may no longer be counted as ICU cases on daily reports, despite still being in hospital.
While hospitals still track these numbers, they are recorded independently from reported Covid numbers as cases of discontinued isolation.
In most cases, isolation is ended after 10 to 20 days, provided Covid symptoms are improving.
