Long held concerns over the safety of women in Northern work camps hold strong following an incident in Kitimat this month.
Curtis Sagmoen, a subcontractor on LNG Canada’s Kitimat project, was removed from a work camp following public outcry.
Sagmoen has had an extensive history with the law, including three assault convictions involving sex workers since 2013.
He is also currently undergoing legal proceedings after being charged with assaulting a police officer last year.
Protests were previously sparked in Vernon, after human remains were found on his family property in 2017, which led to no charges for Sagmoen.
Public and social media outcry prompted LNG Canada to take action to remove the subcontractor.
But many say he should never have passed a background check in the first place, with legal issues dating back to 2002.
LNG Canada says they have launched an investigation in to the process that led to the individual, who they did not name, being on site.
