RCMP in Terrace are warning residents not to become victims of “sextrotion” as they continue to investigate a child pornography case in the City.
In April, a social media company notified police that someone, tracked to Terrace, had been distributing child pornography online.
In June, a suspect was arrested on related charges, though the investigation is on-going.
Now, RCMP are making sure people stay safe when it comes to sexual exploitation.
They are reminding the public that online harassment is a serious crime, with serious consequences, and that once something is online, it’s almost impossible to remove.
In addition, they are issuing the following safety tips for those harassed online: do not accept friend requests from unknown sources, stop all communication with an offender and deactivate accounts they know of, and report everything to police.
If you have any information regarding these offenses, contact Terrace RCMP at 250 638 7400.
