Since agreeing to restart negotiations last month, we’ve heard very little from either side of the Rio Tinto talks.
But that changed for the better this weekend, with news of a new agreement in principle hitting the presses.
Details of a new Collective Labour Agreement have been agreed upon between Rio Tinto and Unifor Local 2301 for BC Works.
In addition, the two parties have reportedly worked out a Memorandum of Understanding, defining how they will work together in the future, and a return to work protocol.
While both parties have agreed not to release specific details, they also say the agreement will benefit employees, their families, the company, and the whole community.
A vote to ratify the agreement is the next step; expected in the coming days.
