An Indigenous woman who calls the North home has been honoured with a prestigious Swedish award.
Wet’suwet’en land defender, and Indigenous rights campaigner Freda Huson has been granted the Right Livelihood Award.
Handed out by a Swedish organization, the award is meant to “honour and support those offering practical and exemplary answers to the most urgent challenges facing us today.”
Huson, a Unist’ot’en Land Defender, was given her award in recognition of her fearless dedication to reclaiming her people’s culture.
The recognition comes from her defense of her peoples’ land against pipeline projects.
