Across Canada yesterday, gatherings, celebrations, and ceremonies were held in honour of the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
In Terrace, the day is more prominently known as Orange Shirt Day, a day to commemorate and remember the victims and survivors of the Residential School System.
Residents from around the City gathered yesterday at the Millennium Trail, and spoke on what the day means to them.
City Councilors Brian Downie and Sean Bujtas were also present at the Tears to Hope event.
They took time following the 5K Every Child Matters walk to discuss what the new day means to the community.
Event organizer and Tears to Hope rep, Lorna Brown also took time to speak on the importance of the day.
