Residents of Prince Rupert broke quite a sweat yesterday as the honoured Truth and Reconciliation Day.
Paticipants gathered at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre with the goal of completing a combined 215 laps around the track.
But attendees smashed that goal, totaling 4,265 laps by day’s end.
Each lap was to honour an Indigenous child who was sent to a Residential School, now totaling 6,509 and counting.
The event was made possible thanks to the Friendship House Association of Prince Rupert, the Prince Rupert Fire Department, Nisga’a Dancers, and various other community members who came together to honour the victims and survivors of the Residential School System.
